Week 3

Monday: VS and LC completed online test to see where skills are at begining of year v end of the year - 50 questions was draining even for Math Whiz (scored a 92%) - need to still do the reading portion. As I understand it, his math score should not be that high in the begining of the year - but knowing LA-reading is a challenge we'll see what IEP team has to say overall.
LC also changed the Scheduler to block scheduling. So VS lessons for week are each done all day for 1 or 2 days. Math takes one day to learn but LA and all that supports language development happens over 2 days. Then we have option of sticking with LA on consecutive days or piggybacking Social Studies, which is a smiliar topic.
Tuesday - started school a bit early as it's Therapy Day [inaddition to VSS & VS being up at 6:00am] Progress to level of NOT finding what Math assessement was "next in order"... hunted around LMS and Course Tree for 15 minutes; FYI~ LMS is too helpful, start at the bottom of overdue list. Completed those reviews, assessments and threw in a video or two for visual confirmation of boredom with Doubles "That's e-a-s-y..."  Later OT arrived {new game in hand} introduced keyboard program, which VSS took to like a duck to water. Did not like the 10 minutes a day practice she assigned, though. Tried to negotiate 2 or 3 days a week practice instead. Yep- that's Our Negotiator.
New approach to LA - Third times's the charm, right? To minimize off task chatter, give VS manipulatives that are related to topic of discussion. Explore  SPACE for Language Arts. Wahoo - sucess in 2.5 hours in the afternoon ... almost unheard of but this is SPACE afterall. Only thing better might be NASCAR. VS asked  independant questions and gave thoughtful answers - wondered if topic astronaut was pilot of same space shuttle (Atlantis) he has (Can we search on the Internet??) and what do the astronauts do when it explodes, as if this happens often. Touched briefly on safety, jobs and what if scenarios...which is where we ended because that proved to be the tune-out point....and snack time.
