Week 2 Day 3+

Friday ended up being our first medical crisis. VSS awoke in wee hours with a fever and couldn't sleep so Learning Coach couldn't sleep, either. Finally medication started working and VSS fell asleep safely around 3-330am - that meant about 4 for LC...when morning came at 6 am alternate LC stepped in (called in a spouse "sick day") to cover learning for the day. Might be a loooong winter if this becomes the new normal....!
VS couldn't have been happier - plus a familiar topic for aLC: Plants! During travels to rehab therapy they discussed Science Safety. Funny discussions and clever thinking * No head first down the rollar slide (Feet Always First, our actual rule) * Scholastic video "Officer Buckle and Gloria the dog" create a list of unusual safety tips, which VS can usual recite verbatim such as Never leave a thumbtack where someone might sit on it * coming full circle to wear safety goggles and have adult supervision
Later they were talking about being alive v not alive (why are plants alive) - VS was trying to convince us both that tractors are living machines because they move.....thanks to School House Rock (I'm a machine-You're a machine from Body Machine song) complete with engine and gasoline for fuel....hard stretch to plants and animals. But a good laugh!
Together they explored marigold flowers during VSS pediatricians office visit then upon returning home further dissected a bean from our garden trellis (picture on right) and a dried marigold for seeds (left) - how different they were but both ended up being a plant. VS was perplexed for a moment (not very black and white concept when you throw in different beginnings to same end result). But clarity was acheived once again when they compared two flowers - differences and similarities. Marigold & impatients.
We have one more experiment to test - covering leaf with tin foil to see what happens to a plant after a week.
